What bodyweight training is good for
Bodyweight movements load the whole chain at once and cost nothing to set up, which makes them the most reliable way to train away from a gym. Pull-ups and dips build real upper-body strength β for most people they are already a heavy load β and push-ups, planks and hanging leg raises cover pressing and trunk work with no equipment at all. Every one of them scales: change the leverage, the range or the tempo and the same exercise gets harder.
Progression is the thing to plan for. Once you can do 12β15 clean reps, adding more reps stops being the fastest route β hang a weight from a belt, slow the lowering down, or move to a harder version such as a single-leg squat or an elevated push-up. Assisted pull-up machines and bands work in the other direction while you build toward a first rep. Bodyweight work is also easy to do often, since it is less taxing to recover from than heavy barbell training.
