Connect SmartReps to your AI assistant

Connect SmartReps to ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, and ask about your workouts or log them straight from a chat.

What it can do

Once connected, these tools are available to the assistant. It always acts as you, on your own account.

list_workout_templates	See your saved workout templates.
get_workout_template	Read one template's exercises and set targets.
set_next_workout	Plan your next workout. It waits on the app's home screen, ready to start.
create_workout	Log a completed workout.
update_workout	Edit an existing workout.
create_workout_template	Create a new workout template.
update_workout_template	Rename a template or change its exercises and targets.

Plus two ready-made prompts, analyze-recent-training and plan-next-workout, that walk it through common coaching tasks.

How to connect

Connecting an assistant is a SmartReps Pro feature. Pick your assistant, paste one address, and sign in with your SmartReps account (the same login as the app).

Claude (web and desktop)

In claude.ai or the Claude desktop app:

Open Customize, then Connectors.
Click + Add, then Add custom connector.
Paste the address below and save.
Click Connect, sign in with your SmartReps account, and approve access.
In a chat, open the + menu, choose Connectors, and turn SmartReps on.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT connects custom apps in Developer mode, on the web at chatgpt.com. It's available on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans. On Business only workspace admins can turn it on, and on Enterprise and Edu an admin has to grant access first.

Open Settings → Apps → Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.
Go to Apps and click Create to add a new MCP app.
Name it SmartReps, paste the address below as the MCP server URL, and choose OAuth for authentication.
Open Advanced OAuth settings and turn off OIDC. Leave the default scopes (profile, email, offline_access) unchanged.
Click Create, sign in with your SmartReps account, and approve access.
In a chat, open the + menu, choose Developer mode, and select SmartReps. You can also type @SmartReps.

Gemini

Gemini connects through Spark, with a personal Google Account (not work or school). Custom apps currently work in English only. Set up on the web. It then works on mobile too.

On gemini.google.com, open Settings & help, then Connected Apps.
Under Custom apps for Spark, click Add a custom app.
Paste the address below and continue.
Sign in with your SmartReps account and approve access.
In a chat, type @ and pick SmartReps.

Claude Code

Add SmartReps from your terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http smartreps https://mcp.smartreps.app/mcp

Then open a Claude Code session, run /mcp, pick smartreps, and choose Authenticate to sign in through your browser.

Check it works

Ask your assistant something like “Summarize my recent SmartReps workouts.” It should ask to use SmartReps, then answer from your real data.

If it's not working

Won't connect? Close and reopen the app (or the Claude Code session) and try again. A long-running session is the usual cause.
The assistant can't see SmartReps? Make sure it's turned on for the current chat, then start a fresh one.
Sign-in didn't stick? Remove the connector, add it again, and sign in once more.
The assistant says SmartReps Pro is required? Your account is on the free plan. Upgrade in the app (Profile → SmartReps Pro), then ask again.
