Bayesian Cable Curl

Face away from a low cable, let the arm reach behind the torso, and curl from a deep biceps stretch with the upper arm still. Constant cable tension in the lengthened position sets it apart from regular curls.

Bayesian Cable Curl exercise demonstration

How to do it

  1. Set a single handle at the bottom of a cable and face away from the stack.
  2. Step forward into a split stance and let the working arm reach back.
  3. Keep the upper arm still with the biceps in a deep stretch.
  4. Curl the handle forward and up without letting the elbow travel.
  5. Squeeze briefly at the top.
  6. Lower for two counts back to the full stretch.

Watch for

  • Elbow drifting forward as you curl.
  • Torso leaning back to finish reps.
  • Losing the stretch by standing too close to the pulley.

Breathing

Exhale as you curl, inhale as you lower.

Tip

The stretch is the point: step far enough forward that the biceps stays under tension at the bottom.
