Cable Overhead Tricep Extension exercise demonstration

How to do it

  1. Attach a rope to a high cable and grip both ends with a neutral grip.
  2. Face away from the stack with the rope pulled past your head and the elbows bent overhead.
  3. Step into a split stance and lean slightly forward with a braced core.
  4. Press the rope forward and up by extending the elbows until the arms are straight.
  5. Squeeze the triceps for one count at lockout.
  6. Lower the rope behind your head under control to a deep stretch.

Watch for

  • Elbows flaring wide instead of staying close to the head.
  • Lower back overarching to drive the press.
  • Letting the cable yank the arms past lockout.

Breathing

Inhale as you lower behind the head, exhale as you press to lockout.

Tip

The split stance lets you lean against the cable. Set the lean so your arms can finish straight without the shoulders rolling forward.
