High-to-Low Cable Crossover

Set cables at the highest position. Lean slightly forward in a staggered stance with elbows softly bent. Pull handles down and together in an arc, crossing at waist level; squeeze your chest and cross hands at the midline. Control the return to emphasize lower chest and full chest adduction.

High-to-Low Cable Crossover exercise demonstration

How to do it

  1. Set the high pulleys and stand or sit with the chest lifted.
  2. Keep a soft elbow bend and pull the shoulders down away from your ears.
  3. Bring the handles or dumbbells in a wide arc without changing elbow angle.
  4. Finish down and together toward lower-chest height and squeeze the chest briefly.
  5. Return under control until you feel a chest stretch.
  6. Keep the movement at the shoulder joint, not the elbows.

Watch for

  • Bending and straightening the elbows like a press.
  • Shoulders rolling forward at the stretched position.
  • Using momentum to bounce out of the bottom.

Breathing

Exhale as the hands come together, inhale during the return.

Tip

Use lighter weight than a press so the chest, not the elbows, controls the arc.
